Yogyakarta – Strengthening the quality of higher education requires commitment, collaboration, and measurable steps to ensure that academic quality keeps improving. The Faculty of Sharia and Law (FSH) of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta put this into practice through the Institutional Quality Improvement Workshop, held on 28–30 October 2026 at the Platinum Adisucipto Hotel, Yogyakarta. The workshop focused on finalizing quality documents and preparing for international accreditation.
The workshop was opened by the Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Prof. Noorhaidi Hasan, S.Ag., M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D. Also present were the Dean of FSH, Prof. Dr. Ali Sodiqin, M.Ag., the vice deans, heads and secretaries of study programs, program teams, lecturers, and students. They were joined by the Head of the Bureau of Academic, Student Affairs and Cooperation (AAKK), Dr. H. Muhammad Lutfi Hamid, M.Ag., the Head of Public Relations, Drs. RTM. Maharani, M.M., and the team from the Quality Assurance Institute (LPM) of UIN Sunan Kalijaga.
The Dean explained that the workshop aimed to accelerate the completion of quality improvement and accreditation documents. To this end, the faculty formed several teams responsible for study program accreditation, the Faculty Strategic Plan (Renstra), risk management, the development of the Master of Laws Program, and preparations for the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) of the Comparative Islamic Jurisprudence (Perbandingan Mazhab) Study Program.
During the study program working session, the Master of Laws team was led by the Head of Program, Dr. Nurainun Mangunsong, and the Program Secretary, Dr. Wardatul Fitri. The team members were Prof. Ratno Lukito, Prof. Lindra Darnela, Dr. Hj. Siti Fatimah, and Dr. Sri Wahyuni.
The first agenda item was the follow-up to the Internal Quality Audit (AMI) findings on foreign-language instruction. Five permanent lecturers are scheduled to teach in a foreign language, each for two sessions covering lecture delivery, assignments, and student presentations. They are Prof. Ratno Lukito (Philosophy of Law), Prof. Lindra Darnela (Sociolegal Studies), Dr. Faisal Lukman Hakim (Legal Theory), Dr. Sri Wahyuni (Competition and Bankruptcy Law), and Muhrisun AW (Legal Research Methodology). All of these activities will be documented through videos, photographs, and written assignments as evidence of implementation.
The next agenda item was the curriculum review, which covered three changes. First, in the first semester, the compulsory courses were revised and expanded: Philosophy of Law and Legal Theory were merged into Philosophy and Theory of Law, and Comparative Law was added. Second, in the second semester, the number of concentration electives offered increased from two to four. Each elective was reduced from 3 to 2 credits (SKS), so students must now take three electives while the total load remains 6 credits. Third, for the third semester, the team proposed increasing the Proposal Seminar course from 2 to 3 or 4 credits.
In addition, the team agreed on several follow-up measures to strengthen academic quality:
- Aligning lecturers' research roadmaps with teaching by incorporating research findings into course syllabi (RPS) as learning materials or references. The program will write to lecturers asking them to update their syllabi.
- Encouraging student publications at national and international levels, as well as intellectual property (HKI) registration.
- Revising all course syllabi to follow Outcome-Based Education (OBE).
- Completing the entry of the curriculum into the academic administration system. This process is already under way, with only the course codes remaining.
- Preparing the Master of Laws Academic Handbook.
- Preparing the Master of Laws Thesis Writing Guidelines.
Through these measures, the Master of Laws Program of FSH UIN Sunan Kalijaga reaffirms its commitment to continuously improving academic quality while preparing for both national and international accreditation.
